Care Mobile Purchased for Donayre Cancer Care Center
 The Auxiliary of Columbus Regional Healthcare System recently purchased a pink golf cart for the Donayre Cancer Care Center. The “Care Mobile” (as it has been dubbed) will be used by staff for the transportation of general supplies for the center, nutritional supplies/food for patients and lab work. Previously this was done by use of the hospital’s transport vehicle, which resembles an ambulance. “The transport vehicle was not cost effective and was never used for patient transport since our patients are fully ambulatory,” stated Libby Hampton, RN, Manager of Donayre Cancer Care Center.
“The patients have become attached to the golf cart,” Ms. Hampton commented. “It is a motivator for many of the patients. They arrive in the morning, and if it is not sitting out front, they ask about it.” When asked about the pink color, Ms. Hampton stated, “It was painted pink for various reasons: the color represents the Auxiliary who so generously donated it, the pink is symbolic for breast cancer and by getting people’s attention, it encourages general cancer awareness.”
The Care Mobile is fully equipped with head/break lights, turn signals, seating for 4, a fold-down seat for extra storage space, and is battery operated. It provides quick access to the hospital, staying off of the main highway. “The Care Mobile affords us consistency in every 30-minute transportation of lab work,” stated Ms. Hampton. The cart provides an additional benefit to Columbus Regional since it is utilized by Hospital Security in the evenings.
The staff of the Donayre Cancer Care Center is very appreciative of the Columbus Regional Healthcare System Auxiliary. “They are truly a wonderful group of people who have helped the Cancer Center in so many ways,” commented Ms. Hampton. The Auxiliary has supported Columbus Regional Healthcare System for many years. The members donate their time and services to the hospital. Money raised in the Sunshine Shop and through fundraising events is then used to purchase equipment for various departments.
