				<title>QHR Hospital Client, Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Lauded by Consumer Reports</title>
				<link>http://qhr.com/news/qhr_hospital_client_kadlec_regional_medical_center_lauded_by_consumer_repor/</link>
				<guid>http://qhr.com/news/qhr_hospital_client_kadlec_regional_medical_center_lauded_by_consumer_repor/#When:16:16:10Z</guid>
				<description>Brentwood, Tenn. (February 25, 2010) – Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, a QHR management client since 1994, was recently included in a Consumer Reports listing of 105 hospitals in the United States reporting zero central line&#45;associated bloodstream infections for 2008. Data used to develop the list was collected from 926 hospitals in 43 states.

Central&#45;line bloodstream infections are deadly infections associated with catheters that are placed in large veins leading to the heart. The catheters are used to transport essential nutrients, fluids and/or food in large volumes to patients in intensive care. The current average rate of infection among surgical ICUs in the United States is 2.3 infections per 1,000 central line days. Kadlec Regional Medical Center recorded 2,379 central line days with zero bloodstream infections.

“It is estimated that 30 percent of the nearly 99,000 hospital&#45;infection&#45;related deaths in the U.S. each year come from central&#45;line bloodstream infections. The good news is that they are largely preventable – with proper attention given to things like hand washing and disinfection of a patient’s skin,” said QHR Vice President, Clinical Operations, Pat Cooper. “This report gives definitive evidence of the high level of attention and respect being given to the patients at Kadlec. The hospital’s efforts and outcomes are truly outstanding.”

“Our intensivists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists and other members of the Kadlec ICU team have developed aligned goals and adopted care bundles for a variety of situations, and the result has been a dramatically reduced rate of complications and mortality for our ICU patients,” said Kadlec Regional Medical Center CEO Rand Wortman. “We are very proud of the improvements in quality of care and
patient safety that they have achieved. Our community has benefited greatly from their expertise and their efforts to continually improve care.”

				<description>Brentwood, Tenn. (February 22, 2010) – Harold “Hal” Hawk, former chairman of the board of Memorial Hospital in Freemont, Ohio, has been recognized as part of Modern Healthcare’s 2010 Trustee of the Year awards program; Hawk received “Honorable Mention” in the Small Hospital category. The award was announced in this week’s issue of Modern Healthcare.

“Hal is incredibly deserving of this recognition,” said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “His knowledge, expertise and unwavering commitment to Memorial Hospital have been an integral part of its
growth and success. We are delighted to see him celebrated in this way.”

Hawk has been a member of Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors since 2000. He was appointed chairman of the board in 2001, after successfully advocating for the construction of Memorial Hospital’s
30,000&#45;square&#45;foot Weitzel&#45;Kern Surgical Facility, and its 29,000&#45;square&#45;foot Herbert&#45;Perna Center for Physical Health.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Hal Hawk for the past 15 months. In my experience, Hal is relentless in his commitment to Memorial Hospital and in facilitating a framework that drives us to
achieve our desired clinical and financial outcomes,” said John Yanes, CEO of Memorial Hospital. “Hal clearly merits this national recognition. His commitment as a board member, business leader and community steward is commendable.”

According to Yanes, Hawk’s tenure as Memorial Hospital’s chairman of the board included an array of challenges, changes and successes. Among many other things, Hawk played an integral part in helping the hospital transition into a management services agreement with QHR. He also led the hospital’s search for a new CEO, when its CEO of 16 years stepped down.

Hawk served on Memorial Hospital’s board of directors for nine years, and has also served as a member of the hospital’s foundation board and operating board. He has held positions including secretary,
treasurer and vice chairman, and was elected to two terms as chairman. Hawk continues to serve on Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors and currently chairs the Finance Committee. He serves on other hospital committees and is an active and engaged member of the Freemont community.

				<title>QHR Clients Fort Madison and Monroe County Hospital Named to &#8220;Best in Value&#8221; Top 100</title>

				<description>Brentwood, Tenn. (December 20, 2009) – Data Advantage, LLC recently named two QHR management clients to its “Top 100 Hospitals: Best in Value Hospitals” list. Fort Madison Community Hospital (Fort Madison, Iowa), a QHR management client since 1982, and Monroe County Hospital (Monroeville, Ala.), a QHR management client since 1979, were lauded by the company, which specializes in providing hospitals and other healthcare&#45;related businesses with independent and objective business intelligence.

“These are the hospitals that set the bar for the nation when it comes to value. If every hospital performed at the level of the Top 100, we found that more than $60 billion per year could be saved,” said Hal Andrews, CEO of Data Advantage. “The Hospital Value Index winners … have a proven ability to deliver high value care to their communities and represent a model of care that other U.S. hospitals should look to.”

“This is deserved recognition for CEOs James Platt and Vincent Defranco, and their teams at Fort Madison Community and Monroe County hospitals,” said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “The success they’re achieving clinically, financially and operationally is commendable. I’m pleased and proud to call them a part of the QHR family.”

Data Advantage’s 2009&#45;2010 Hospital Value Index study analyzed the value of care provided at more than 4,500 acute&#45;care hospitals across the United States. Researchers considered a variety of public data on hospital quality, price, efficiency and patient satisfaction in determining their outcomes. Specifically, they looked at:
&#45; Quality, including CMS’s Core Measures, patient safety, mortality and readmission rates;
&#45; Efficiency, including the relative measure of the cost to the hospital for providing services;
&#45; Affordability, a relative comparison of prices charged for inpatient and outpatient services; and
&#45; Patient Satisfaction as measured by HCAHPS.

				<title>QHR Client Hospitals in North Carolina, Michigan Lauded for Providing Community Value</title>

				<description>Brentwood, Tenn. (December 17, 2009) – Quorum Health Resources hospital clients Rutherford Hospital Inc. (Rutherfordton, N.C.), a management client since 1983, and Sturgis Hospital (Sturgis, Mich.), a management client since 1992, were recently recognized as top&#45;ranked Community Value Providers by Cleverley + Associates. Cleverley + Associates, a healthcare financial consulting firm specializing in operational benchmarking, released the findings as part of its new publication: State of the Hospital Industry (2009 Edition).

“We are incredibly proud of the work being done at both Rutherford Hospital and Sturgis Hospital,” says QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “Under the leadership of QHR veteran CEOs David Bixler and Rob Labarge, they deliver real value to the communities they serve. They’re not only quality healthcare providers, but also dedicated community partners.”

According to Cleverley + Associates, the Community Value Index contains four core areas of evaluation: financial viability and plant reinvestment, cost structure, charge structure and quality performance. Each area contains metrics that compare a hospital’s performance to an appropriate peer group. The combined performance in each area is the Community Value Index® score. Those hospitals with scores in the top 20 percent are designated as “Five&#45;Star” facilities. A subset of this group is the “Top 100,” which contains the highest scoring facilities in the country; both Rutherford Hospital and Sturgis Hospital ranked in this category.

Measurement in the CVI’s four core areas suggest that hospitals operating with a high degree of community value are those that are low cost, low charge, use a strong financial position to reinvest back into the provision of care at the facility, and provide high quality care to patients, Cleverly + Associates says.
