Medicare-certified Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) are reimbursed from the Medicare program under a cost-based reimbursement system. This system is distinct and different from other Medicare program fee-for-service methodologies, such as the inpatient and outpatient prospective payment systems. These reimbursement systems inherently cause different financial and operational issues that are truly unique to Critical Access Hospitals.
Please join QHR Health’s John Waltko for a high-level overview of the Medicare cost-based reimbursement methodology. With this fundamental knowledge, attendees will better understand some of the unique reimbursement challenges Critical Access Hospitals face and how they impact the CAH’s financial performance.
- Develop an understanding of “how” CAH cost-based reimbursement is determined by the Medicare program, and through the Medicare Cost Report
- Understand the Medicare Cost Report Apportionment Formula and how it determines Medicare cost reimbursement
- Learn how changing volumes, costs, and payor mix impact Medicare cost reimbursement through the Medicare Apportionment Formula
