Medicare Geographic Reclassification

*Part of the Healthcare Providers Reimbursement Series

Register Now

Medicare reimbursement rates are partially based on Medicare published wage indexes. To ensure reimbursement mirrors the hospital actual labor market, hospitals can file a Medicare Geographic Reclassification Application. If approved by the Medicare Geographic Reclassification Review Board, the hospital will be assigned a wage index reflective of its actual labor costs. In turn, Medicare reimbursements increase materially.

This course will discuss the qualifying criteria for filing a Medicare Geographic Reclassification Application and obtaining enhanced Medicare reimbursement. Attendees will receive sample forms to complete. Applications are due to the Medicare Geographic Review Board on September 1 and are based on data published in May and August in the Medicare Inpatient Prospective Payment System rules.
