In the proposed rule, CMS has proposed a number of adjustments to the Medicare Geographic Reclassification rules, Medicare Bad Debts and other minor revisions to inpatient reimbursement regulations.

Other significant material reimbursement development topics include:

  • Recent federal legislation landmark court decisions
  • Changes in policy, or policy interpretations, by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Payment rate, uncompensated care payment, and hospital wage index changes
  • Cost reporting developments and other payment policies proposed by CMS for the 2022 federal fiscal year that impact hospital reimbursement, expected to be issued by May 1, 2021.
