QHR’s Reimbursement for PPS Hospitals Boot Camp is designed to provide an in-depth review of the Medicare reimbursement system for acute care hospitals subject to the Medicare prospective payment system and Medicare physician fee schedule system. Sub-acute inpatient services such as skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation and psychiatric care units, and home health agency prospective payment systems will also be highlighted.

Part 1 – Tuesday & Wednesday, September 24 & 25

Part 1 of this 4-day event will start with discussion and illustrations of how CMS determines hospital inpatient and outpatient payment rates under the Medicare prospective payment systems as well as the Medicare physician fee schedule system. A detailed review of specific special payment opportunities such as Disproportionate Share Hospitals, Uncompensated Care Costs (UCC), Medicare Geographic Reclassification and Low Volume Payment Adjustments will be included. Unique hospital designations such as Sole Community Hospital, Rural Referral Centers, and Medicare Dependent Hospitals qualifying criteria and payment advantages will also be covered in detail. CMS provider based regulatory requirements will be reviewed in conjunction with the Medicare physician fee schedule reimbursement system to allow participants to understand when a service can be billed by a hospital as an outpatient service, as well as nuances such as the Medicare provider based regulations.

  • Learn and understand Medicare programs' Prospective Payment Systems (PPS) for hospital inpatient and outpatient services in detail as well as the fundamentals related to skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, inpatient rehabilitation, and psychiatric hospitals and units.
  • Learn about major quality program initiatives within the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) such as value based purchasing, hospital re-admissions, hospital-acquired conditions and ACA Demonstration projects (ACOs and Bundled Payments)
  • Determine if a hospital qualifies for Medicare designations such as Sole Community Hospital Status, Medicare Dependent Hospital, Rural Referral Center or the Medicare Geographic Reclassification, and the reimbursement differentials that accrue with such designations.
  • Learn the Medicare regulatory requirements for establishing provider-based departments and physician practices as well as physician fee schedule reimbursement methodology.

If QLI cancels or reschedules a classroom program, the registrant is entitled to:

  • a full refund of the registration fee, or
  • the right to transfer the registration fee to the rescheduled classroom program date

You must notify customer service immediately should you be unable to attend a classroom program in which you are registered.

NON-QHR AFFILIATED ATTENDEES

  • If your cancellation is received fifteen (15) business days or more prior to the start of the event, we will provide a credit to your account to be used on any future eligible classroom event. This credit will be good for up to one (1) year from the date of cancellation.
  • Participant(s) who cancel less than fifteen (15) business days prior to the event start date will be considered “no shows” and will not be eligible for a registration fee credit.

QHR AFFILIATED ATTENDEES

  • Select QLI classroom programs are included in QHR affiliate contracts and may not have up-front registration fees. However, QHR affiliates will be assessed a fee of $150.00 for cancellation within fifteen (15) business days of the event. This fee is charged to offset the hard costs incurred by QLI for meals and course materials.
  • For classroom programs which incur paid registration fees for affiliated attendees, the same non-affiliated attendee cancellation policy applies.

Part 2 – Thursday & Friday, September 26 & 27

Part 2 will cover the Medicare cost reporting forms and compilation of the forms. Cost report reimbursement settlements, including Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payment, and Uncompensated Care Costs will be discussed as well as cost report compilation and reporting requirements. Complex issues such as cost allocation methodology, allowable costs and the Medicare apportionment and cost determinations will be highlighted. After completion of this segment of the program, attendees will be able to review the cost report, follow the flow of the worksheets and understand all required data elements required to compile the forms.

  • Review and gain a better understanding of Medicare Cost Report forms, the Medicare cost apportionment formula and compilation process within the forms.
  • Review of the Medicare Wage Index Survey, Uncompensated Care Cost Worksheets and related cost report instructions.
  • Review and become familiar with all major cost report worksheets, including key compilation requirements and preparation pointers.
  • Comprehend Medicare allowable cost principles, including costs not allowable on the cost report, the general service costs allocation methodology and the Medicare cost apportionment process.
  • Learn from a review of cost report settlement worksheets, reporting of payments, and other reimbursements that impact the annual cost report settlement amount.
