Medicare Designated Provider Based Clinics and Departments – 2-Part Series
April 10-11, 2019 | 10:30 am - 11:30 am CST
Complying with Medicare Provider Based Regulations allows hospitals and practices to participate in the 340B Pharmaceutical program and obtain higher Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements. But the provider based designation regulations are expansive, complex and challenging to implement.
This webinar will detail underlying regulatory requirements for a facility to be deemed a provider based department or entity of a hospital or critical access hospital. In addition to the regulatory complexity, CMS has been implementing site neutral payment policies for off-campus provider based practices as well as challenging some hospitals’ provider based designations.
Provider based designations increases Medicare reimbursements, for physician practices and other outpatient services such as pain management, wound care management, and cancer centers including joint ventures. Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for Medicare certified Rural Health Clinics are also increased when such are provider based hospitals and even more so when the hospital has less than 50 beds. In addition, entities, practices and other entities with the Medicare provider based designation can participate in the 340B drug acquisition and 340B retail pharmacy programs. These two programs can both bring large cost savings to hospital owned practices and business lines as well as additional revenue stream as well as savings to community.
With the reimbursement and other benefits inherent in the provider based settings, this program is designed to assist hospital personal to stay in compliance with existing provider based departments and practices, and assist with future conversions. An overview of all the reimbursement benefits will also be highlighted, including determining the reimbursement benefit.
