Reimbursement & Regulatory Update: Final Inpatient PPS Rules & Reimbursement Changes— 3-Part Series

Reimbursement legislation and regulations are continuously evolving, and so must you. Join QHR’s John Waltko, Vice President, Regulatory and Financial Reporting, for this quarter’s Reimbursement and Regulatory update as he covers important issues such as new rules, federal legislation, landmark court decisions and changes in policy or policy interpretations by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that affect hospital reimbursement and operations.

This 3-part series will cover payment rate changes, Medicare geographic reclassification, uncompensated care payment revisions, Medicare DSH payment revisions, Medicare Low Volume Payment Adjustment update, and other payment policies being proposed by CMS for the 2020 federal fiscal year. The final rule is expected to be issued by CMS by August 1, 2019. Payment rate increases for  SNFs, inpatient psychiatric services, rehabilitation hospitals will likewise be highlighted along with any  material and significant policy proposals for these sub -acute providers.  Regulatory and legislative developments impacting hospitals reimbursements will also be highlighted.

Participants will Learn

  • Learn how to apply the CMS finalized payment policies and payment updates for all hospital inpatient services for the 2019 fiscal year
  • Determine if your hospital qualifies for Medicare geographic reclassification
  • Determine if they qualify for Low Volume Payment Adjustments and filing for the LVPA Application
  • Determining Medicare Uncompensated Care Reimbursement amount for next fiscal year
  • Review CMS new policy for Shared Space Arrangements and recent Supreme Court Decision on Medicare DSH Reimbursements.
  • Review Changes to devise pass through payments and other significant inpatient policy payment changes


In order to be awarded the full credits, you must respond to the three polling questions asked during each program session and complete the evaluation.
